Erm, but that was the point of my post - when it comes to video, everyone does has their own closed eco-system. If you buy a downloadable video from Amazon, you need the Amazon player to play it. If you buy a video with Zune, you need a Microsoft player or device to play it. How is that any different to Apple?
In fact Google and Microsoft are more the exception than the rule.
