Dun Dun Dun and they're dead! Just kidding but given Martin's history surprised there would be much of a cast after the latest book.

I think reading this and taking it seriously has made me a better person, so my instinct is to share it.

A-LA-BA-MA MAN!
HE'S QUICK, HE'S STRONG, HE'S ACTIVE!
You can take Alabama Man to the bowling alley, where he drinks heavily and chews tobacco!
HE CAN BOWL, HE CAN DRINK, HE CAN DRINK SOME MORE, ALA-BA-MA-MAN!
When wife asks him where he's been, just use the action button and Alabama Man busts her lip open!
"Shut up, Bitch!"
"Wow!"
BEATS HIS WIFE AND SLEEPS IT OFF, A-LA-BA-MA MAN!

No baby, Santorum is the guy next to Renly. The guy next to Jeoffry is Newt Gingrich.

I always found her rightful monarch spiel amusing, since the only justifications the Targaryens had for holding the throne was taking it by force - much like the next people did.

At least Roberts Rebellion they did it themselves and didn't have their pets do the heavy lifting...

I would criticize her for being willing to let loose a bunch of raping and looting savages on her land for her selfish goals, but I guess that makes her essentially the same as every other noble claimant in the story.

Jake would back Renly. Zing!

This is a neat video of how seamlessly they are integrating CGI:

Thanks for posting Skelas. Its really impressive to see what they can do with modifying the existing environment into effects that you cant tell are fake.

I've been reading some of his short stories on the train lately, he has quite a few good ones. The Dreamsongs anthology has some good stuff and I kinda fancy his Sci Fi universe.

So I'm half way through Feast of Crows without hearing anything about my favorite character, Daenerys, but I am finding that I don't care. Sure I'd like to know more about what is happening with her, as well as to Stannis who has yet to be mentioned and Aria who has only had one chapter, but even if the book focuses mostly on characters that have previously only had minor roles the stories are good.

Honestly I found myself skipping huge swaths of text in Storm of Swords because it dealt exclusively with describing some elaborate panorama or the way that various soldiers were dressed, or else was dialogue unrelated to the story at hand. I'm not doing that in Feast of Crows because, with only a few exceptions, every sentence seems to advance the plot.

^ Of all the books, I liked feast for crows the least. I feel like I read half a book.

That's because Feast of Crows is only half a book. Originally it and the next book were to be a single book but Martin got diarrhea of the pen and wrote too much about the characters in what became Feast of Crows. I personally, like Chain, enjoyed the book even though it barely touched on several of my favorite characters.

I know a lot of people don't like Feast of Crow's but I am not one of them. It reads like all his other books in my opinion.

If he took out all of the crap about the total dumb asses at Pyke/Iron islands and insert Tyrion/Danny/Bran then it is no different then the other books.

I can see however if you combine the stupidity of the iron guys then you read chapter after chapter of Cersai being an absolute dumb ass that the book could get irratating. That is the risk you take when you kill off your interesting characters.

Who was particularly interesting that he has killed off?
The Red Viper, maybe.... thats all I can think of off hand.

Ned and Robb Stark, Khal Drogo (and Rhaego, if he counts?), Tywin Lannister, Robert Renly and Joffery "Baratheon," Gregor and Sandor Celgane and Shae spring to mind.
Meh,
Ned was an idiot and, even if you like him, you just had to beat your head against the wall at his political incompetence. Robb was kind of underdeveloped IMO as a personality. Drogo was never particularly interesting either, just kind of a plot piece and it was fairly obvious he was not destined for the earth (or whatever) very long. Renly wasn't particularly developed either, and Robert was far more interesting in the show where they add the lion in winter scene - not much interesting about a washed up fat drunk.. Joffery was just a douchebag that everyone was happy died.

Maybe Tywin and Shae count... We don't know for sure if the Cleganes are dead
There are plenty of interesting characters left, including the most interesting characters. Hell, even vapid characters Sansa become more interesting as the story progresses. Of course then there is Brienne...

I suppose the fact that there are that many characters people actually find interesting are telling that its better than your average crap fantasy writing..
You and Chain named most of them (although you missed a couple like Rob and Black Mormont) however maybe you miss the point. If you don't include some of the primary characters and then butcher many of the interesting minor's and combine that with not very good newly introduced characters you can't be surprised people don't like your product.

Feast of Crow's would not be a very good book if it was the first book. While I like Feast of Crow's I would be the first to admit that Cersai, Iron Idiots and Sansa are not good enough to carry a book on its own compared to those characters he just ignored.

He nukes Brienne which is a primary is Feast and what you are left with is Jamie, a little bit of Arya and Sam to carry the book.

Who would you rather read about, Boring Dorn, Cersai, Iron Idiots, Sansa, Jamie, Brienne, Arya and Sam OR Bran, John, Danny, Jamie, Brienne, Arya, Tyrion and Sam?
I like reading abut Cersei for the same reasons I found Azula (from the Last Air Bender) to be an interesting character,
because you get to watch someone with power descend slowly into madness
and I think Baelish was more than interesting enough to carry Sansa'a sections of the book. I also enjoyed Arya's stories and even if Sam wasn't interesting himself some of the things he saw merited reading about.

Frankly, from the moment Bran fell he stopped being interesting to me - weird ass "coming of age" stories just don't appeal to me. I would like to know more about John, Danny and Tyrion though; which is why I will definitely read a Dance with Dragons Smile
