HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been warned
Breand Wrote:Are you guys reading the same books? Main characters are not dying at the drop of a hat, dunno what you are talking about.
This topic is a combination of books and show. Robb is a main character in the show and the books and we all know what happens to him. Other show main characters that are going to bite the dust are Tywinn, Brienne of Tarth (main charcter in show and book which may not be in the stories moving forward), and the Hound.

Robb is not a main character in the books, neither is Tywin. Both had their roles bolstered greatly in the show. Brienne's fate is technically unknown altho it doesn't look good for her. The Hound is dead. But I NEVER considered any of these people main characters. I can give you Robb but to me, the main characters are Ned Stark's children (except for Rickon), Tywin Lannister's children, and Daenyres. The only main characters that were actually killed in my mind is Ned and Catelyn, and she's still around Wink

Yea, I think we all know that. But like V said, we're talking about the show and the books. In the show Robb definitely was a main character. Catelyn was a main character. Both were just killed off. Ned was the main character and was killed off. In the show they definitely do kill off a lot of the main characters and they may have just killed Jon off as well as the last you saw of him he had just taken 3 arrows. So that's 3, possibly 4 main characters in the show that are gone.

Hound is very possibly not dead either - http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Gr ... r/Theories
Yeah I agree Jake. Big I still never thought of him as a main character.
I can see the debate with Tywin but not Robb and Brienne. 1 or 2 books was told through Brienne's eyes. Martin's main characters are the characters that tell the story and Brienne is one of them. I assume you probably don't think of the guys in the south as main characters?

By the last book maybe 1/3 of the book was about Tywin or Ned's kids. The rest was about the Tulley's, Iron Islands, Stannis, the dude's in the south and Targeryn.

The Hound is not a main character in the books but in the show he certainly is.
What do you mean not Robb? He has zero point of view chapters, no point of story is told through his eyes.

The TV show is the one guilty of building up minor characters to make their deaths more dramatic - if people get putt off, it is HBO's fault, not Martin's.

Robb is a perfect example of how they did this:

In the book: He is a 15 year old kid thrust into the role of head Stark and then king. He gets wounded in battle and ends up fucking the girl who cares for him. He then marries her because he is his father's son and has a sense of honor greater than his ability to perform logical reasoning.

In the show: He is a grown ass man who has an incredibly selfish romance and pregnancy with a complete and utter commoner for no reason other than TV show love and so it can be more dramatic when you stab her in the belly in front of him.
I'm not convinced either one of them is dead. Particularly Brienne. They leave it open when she is hanged. In the last book, which I'm re-reading right now, I don't think any of those you mentioned are main characters. The main characters in Dance are Jon, Daeneyres, Tyrion and maybe Theon.
So I've been doing a lot of research on game of thrones lately, and one of the thoughts about the book revolves around Jon Snow.
Basically the whole "Song of Ice & Fire" is Jon Snow and that Jon Snow isn't Eddard's bastard, he's Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark's bastard and that when Ned went south to get Lyanna after the war, she died after child birth and made Ned promise to take care of her son and hide his true identity.
I'm now half way through book 3, and pretty much right at the end of season 3 of the HBO series.
Thats pretty much the consensus of the internet theorycrafters. It makes sense too because the Targaryen dragon has three heads, and he can be one of them.
There are also a lot of little animated videos about the backstory that aren't terrible.
I was watching a "Deleted scenes" video from the show and they had scene with Loras after Renly was killed by the shadow saying how much strength it would have taken to shove a sword through 2 layers of plate armor and showing the holes in Renly's armor... but Renly wasn't wearing his plate when the shadow killed him. Glad they deleted that scene Wink
I loved the first 2. Did not see joeffey death comming. I kinda thought the king slayer would end up killing him. His own son..... What a supream dick. It was a good death.

I love that i havent read the books. I mean i should have because they seem like they would be great, but this show is fresh to me. I really have no idea what will happen next.

In the book the red wedding and this wedding were only a few chapters apart.... getting married in Westeros seems a poor idea.

This season has been boring. They claimed it would climax episode after episode. Not really. Their are too many characters and not enough time spent on each one.

I thought its been fine, far better than the last few books of the series which are the definition of too many characters and time being spent on the shittiest ones *cough* brienne *cough* bran *cough*

Other than the battle on the wall there really isn't much to look forward to, glad they are deviating from the books more dramatically. Wish they had given us more of Mance though.

(Incidentally, if they claimed it would climax each episode, they really need to learn the definition of the word climax Wink

Yea, first 2 shows were strong. But last 2 were a bit slow. Still enjoying it.
