Soooooo, I was hoping for some wiz bang wow from the developers conference. And we got an announcement of different looking icons on the iphone / ipad.
If your wondering if innovation is dead in Apple, then I would say, yes it seems to be dead. Where is the iWatch?? iTV??? iHaveaclue?

Very troubling. My co-worker and I were commiserating over it yesterday. I guess Steve Jobs really was a god over there. I actually broke down laughing when the guy was going through the new Apple streaming service and talking about all of the "features" which are identical to what Pandora does.
06-11-2013, 10:15 AM
I liked the part about tagging files to make them easier to find.
It's one of those features that sounds like it could be useful except I know the time spent tagging things would exceed the time savings later spent trying to find them, especially on a PC which is already organized by folders. The streaming service could actually be good for them since so many people already have iTunes but I dunno...I would think anyone interested in streaming music probably already uses something else.

No one expected them to announce iTV or iWatch or new phones at the conference. Tim Cook has already said they are coming in the fall. I think the new look is a pretty big deal - a lot more than just icons.
ITunes Radio was also always going to be Pandora-like. The nice part from my point of view is that its ad-free if you have iTunes Match (which I do). That alone will cause me to switch.

I bet when android and others had all of these features that apple is shamelessly stealing, Grieve thought they were unnecessary distractions. Once iOS comes months/years late to the game though, they will be examples of shimmering brilliance.

I installed it on my old iPhone 4 (not brave enough to put a beta on my everyday iPhone 5 yet). I like it a lot. The new interface works really well, regardless of whether it was "inspired" by other OSes.
It was a good idea planning this to be ready at the same time the iPhone 5S comes out. This way, even though the physical appearance of the phone is pretty much the same, people are going to feel like they are getting a whole new phone. Pair it up with the rumored fingerprint reader for security (and maybe user profiles?), and I think they will have a really big hit on their hands.

Hahaha, someone makes a rectangular phone "OMG They are stealing Apple's ideas!"
Apple rips off features that a good OS has had for some time "Well those features were just inspired by the other OS".

Really makes me want to dump my Apple stock now. I was hoping for a bit more of a rebound with news of new innovations. This doesn't give me much confidence at all.
I've still made a decent profit on it but was sitting on it some more in hopes it might creep back up and stay over $450 before selling it. Too many games to fit in signature....

Interestingly, it looks like Samsung is now getting a taste of what it's like to be Apple. Analysts pump up the stock with ridiculously overblown estimates, and then mass downgrades appear giving the impression of failure.
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2013/06/18/s...owngrades/ Some quotes from the Reuters article: Quote:Analysts fell under Samsung Electronics Co Ltd's marketing spell when they made what they now admit were hopelessly optimistic forecasts for its smartphone sales. Quote:massive wave of downgrades Quote:lost nearly $20 billion in market value in a week as shares plunged Quote:The S4, in reality, also lacks any real wow factor, they say. Quote:Expectations for innovation have been lowered, and I don't think there'll be as much buzz surrounding new product launches as it used to beSounds familiar? It's no fun when you are no longer Wall Street's flavor of the month, Question is, is it Samsung (or Apple)'s fault when they don't meet estimates, or the analyst's fault for getting it completely wrong? Either way, it's the shareholders who suffer.

That's why when gambling I stick to games of skill like poker instead of games of chance like stocks.

Yea I don't own Samsung for the same reason. I do own Apple because I thought the religious following would artificially pump the stock up again. Dam Zelots disappoint again.....
Have to enjoy this though.

Would be funnier if anyone actually wanted Windows phones.
![]() Latest is that they are trying to dump their $499 Surface RT to schools for just $199...whiff of desperation there... http://www.dailyfinance.com/2013/06/18/i...from-zero/ ...and sadly for them the schools still don't want them. http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/06/1...l-district Quote:The contract is so significant that Apple's rival Microsoft got involved, asking the district to pilot more than one product and consider its Windows devices. The Redmond, Wash., software company argued that most businesses use Microsoft platforms, and Windows tablets would be a good way to expose students to those devices. Ouch!

Maybe if California wasn't so broke they could afford proper Android products.
06-19-2013, 11:59 PM
Buying Apple products is probably how they got so broke to begin with.

Carl Icahn tweeted that he has taken a "large" position in Apple, thinks its "extremely undervalued"...stock jumped as high as $488.69 in response. It's already up almost $100 from its lows 7 weeks ago.
For context, he bought into Netflix at $58 last year, saying similar things. Netflix is at $261 now.

This kind of reactionary nonsense (nothing to do with Apple) is why I stay the fuck away from the Stock Market.
08-13-2013, 02:01 PM
I dumped my Apple at $470 finally. I bought in at $370 so figured I would take my long term gains and run with it. It's too volatile now and while it could easily go up over 500 in the long term, it could very easily drop back to 350 too based on how finicky the market seems to be treating Apple these days.
Too many games to fit in signature....

I bought more today. Think the fall releases (iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iOS 7, redesigned full size iPad, retina iPad mini, iMac pro, new MacBooks, maybe a TV), plus the buy back, plus Icahn's involvement could juice the stock a lot higher, maybe even new highs.

One day you are going to learn the folly of mixing investing with your personal obsessions... likely when you are my tenant in what was once your house..
08-13-2013, 03:52 PM
I think you are starting to see the writing on the wall...Apple is gonna zoom past Google, smash through $1000, and I'll be moving in to my new NYC digs before we know it (I may consider allowing you to stay on as my butler...)
Anyway, I already learned the folly thing when my trading account dropped from $40,000+ to just $6,000 since last September... And that doesn't even include the losses in my wife's IRA (also known as my second trading account). But I still believe...
