I strongly disagree that Q "does not care" in fact a strong argument can be made that he always had human's best interest at heart. Even if he wouldn't directly save the earth he would undoubtedly put us in a position to do so for ourselves. Like he did in the final episode of TNG where their was an anomaly taking over the whole alpha quadrant threatening life on earth. Or when he whisked the Enterprise away from certain death by Borg simply because he was asked to. Their was also an episode where he lost his powers and had to perform selfless acts in order to regain them.
Moreso since Slamz said our team had to be prepared for anything. It is also possible that Q is both threatening to destroy earth and offering us an opportunity to save it as he always does. I'm not so sure Rambo or Commando would be able to pass Q's trials in which he threatened human elimination.
