well, i will give you another piece of disappointing news. the geeks do not inherit the world.
unless you are Bill Gates, on average the people popular in High School still end up doing better than the people with the best grades who were not as popular. The reason quoted was social networking and social skills that got them better jobs and higher pay.
As to Susan Boyle, all you have to do is look at some of the pathetic losers that were scratched off Britain's Got Talent in the first 30 seconds and they all seem to have many of the traits that she had. Age, cheekyness, style, dress, ect. Take a look at the 60yr old male dancer that stood there waving his arms like an Orangatan; it is on youtube.
A betting man would have bet against her, and given odds against a stellar performance. But that is why they call it betting instead of winning.
Imho, the reason she is so popular is that aside from the underdog arguement, people genuinely like to be pleasantly surprised. Simon goes from rolling his eyes to impressed, the blonde is astonished and the other guy is amazed - that is a world wide pleasant surprise.
