I have never actually tossed a stick of dynamite into a pool to see what happens, though. I guess the question is what, exactly, a moat accomplishes. Presumably the zombies would fall into it and then just bash their way back up out of it. Maybe you can drown them?
I know from experience that zombies move much slower in water, i.e., they just can't jump out of it they have to crawl out. Early in our other games I would rodeo blood moons by them since they couldn't swim. They would pursue me through the water however. Moats would make things like Boomers easier to deal with since it prevents the flopping around.
Imagine Arsilon's shotgun design only the outside is filled with Water. Now when they jump in the pit you have them slowed down inside the moat so you can get better aimed shots. They will still pursue you through the water. Plus once they are all in one group in theory they will stay all in one group. I wonder what happens when you throw a bomb at them while in water? Is the Rag doll effect tamed as well?
It also opens up the possibility of creating a shotgun base with very little cement. Most importantly, I don't think they can jump on each others shoulders while in water.
Moats have the possibility to have the cheapest way (in cement, steel and gun powder) to deal with hordes.
