This is the reason for attuning to the obelisk, the map room.

Once you have the map room built you can teleport to any obelisk you are attuned to, to make it easier to get around.
For example, there is an obelisk near brimstone lake and an obelisk in the volcano. Build a map room near both and you can get resources and quickly go back to our volcano base.
Now, I have never built one, and so haven’t tried it.
