He definitely wanted his character to die in Jedi, and I think he was right that they should have killed him back then. But I don't think using the mindset of an actor at the top of his game in 1983 and comparing it to how he feels in 2015 is comparable.
If you take a look at his filmography, the guy hasn't been in a good movie since 1997 (Air Force One), other than maybe "42."
Plus he's signed to appear in Episode 8, in some way.
