I recently found a new D&D group in my area and its got my interest peak again. I think I mentioned to you guys before if you knew any programs to facilitate it over the internet. Looks like wizards are working on their own version that looks pretty cool so far.

Have any of you guys used programs like this?

Ohhh, that does look nice.

You dorks might even be able to talk me into playing D&D again if it works as good as it looks. The main reason I don't play any tabletop or pencil-and-paper RPGs is that I don't know enough people who live within reasonable driving distance who would do such a thing.

I used meetup.com to find a new group, within 2 weeks of posting, someone contacted me. So far they're not serial killers.

The one on Wizards site isn't free. It's a subscription based service (like $10 a month). From reading the boards on that site it seems the user community is less than enthused with what Wizards actually delivers compared to what they initially promised in terms of this monthly service.

There are several others out there that are free or have a one-time purchase cost associated with them.

Check <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.rpgvirtualtabletop.com/">http://www.rpgvirtualtabletop.com/</a><!-- m --> and <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fantasygrounds.com/">http://www.fantasygrounds.com/</a><!-- m --> for some options.

Oh, yeah, that seems silly. Unless they deliver a new campaign every month or two, I can't imagine paying $10/month to play a tabletop RPG, on top of the usual purchases.

Have you used any of these yourself?

I really dont get wizards. They've owned D&D brand for close to a decade now and still dont have this shit digital yet. D&D online is a fucking joke.

No, I haven't. I just happened to be reading up on this the other day myself and came across those. The fantasygrounds one sounds cool but I believe (from what little I've checked so far) that you have to customize it in some way to whatever game you're playing. There is apparently alot of community involvement in this though so it's likely if you stick to something mainstream in the RPG world (like D&D) you probably wouldn't have to do much.

If anyone looks into it further before I do let us know what ya think of them!

To answer the other question "Can we play over vent" well yes and no. Certainly there is alot you can do over vent, but ever since the D&D rules went heavily into positioning on a map (an attempt to sell more figures) it's difficult without an actual map and at least tokens of some sort to represent players/monsters since flanking is important now (at least it was after version 3.5, I haven't played version 4).

Can always use good old second edition (primarily as I am too lazy to torrent the new books and read through them).

And Skelas, don't you have some more underage hispanic girls to rig contests for?

Hell I'd forgotten about that.... I was referring to the groupie-girl I heard that Skelas has following him around like a lost puppy on Warhammer vent.

I found another one that had a video tutorial, but I will look into them.

I guess the question is, does anyone want to try to get this started? Any GM/DM's wanna get us going?

Damn, it must be that manly, testosterone dripping, baritone voice that Skelas speaks with over Vent. I would have thought we had Barry White or Isaac Hayes in our guild, except both of those guys are dead.

I used to run a game but I'm pretty fuzzy on the rules after 7 years and still stuck in 2nd edition.
