R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Moristans - 07-20-2009

If anything, I've never been dissapointed by a Sean Bean performance.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Fretty - 07-21-2009

I'm very happy to see this. I think Sean Bean is a great actor and will fit the role perfectly. This also shows that the show IS in fact in the works, and no longer just being "played" with. And the fact that it starts shooting in October is a good thing too. I'm excited! Big Grin

there's a really good blog that keeps tabs on the production here:

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Fretty - 07-21-2009

Any news on the new book by chance?
ha!

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Jakensama - 07-21-2009

We'll probably get a series greenlit and on HBO before Martin releases the next book. I started reading this shit my freshman year of college and we're still several books out. And looking at his fat ass you know he is going to pull a Jordan and croak before he finishes.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Fretty - 07-21-2009

Unfortunately I believe you Jakensama. He will be dead before he finishes the series. In fact, I'd be surprised if we even get the NEXT book...

Does he have a set number of books left to write, or is that undetermined at the moment?

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Moristans - 07-21-2009

Meanwhile, Terry Brooks keeps churning out Shannara novels.

I haven't read his stuff, but IF they are any good, the sheer amount of books is quite intimidating.

He says its set. I cant remember if its 2 or 3 more after this one though. But these last 2 books (well the last one and the one coming up) were originally supposed to be one book so he could try to split them again.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Fretty - 07-22-2009

Ya I read that on his website too. I don't mind if he splits books to ensure that he doesn't rush any particular character, but I DO mind if he never releases a damn book again! He sounds like an ass on his site, saying he won't update it again until he can say the book is completed because he doesn't want to waste time updating his site (the whole 5 minutes it takes) when he could be working on the book, which is well and fine, but he consistantly wastes his time at fan conventions and such, which really annoys me. Grrr, I've been waiting for this damn thing for ages!!

I'm pretty stoked for the HBO series... the casting choices seem to be pretty good so far. The guy they picked for Tyrion is perfect.

I've stopped holding my breath for the next book a long time ago Smile

Here's an HBO sneak peak video:

A tv series based on the books is cool and all but when I heard about it I just groaned since that means it will be that much longer before he gets the next book done. Besides that - what are they doing making a tv series of a story that isn't even finished yet.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Uncle Shags - 12-08-2010

Bah! You're right! I just watched it ten minutes ago. HBO must have just pulled some shit so you can't watch it? I'll look for it somewhere else.

This should work:

yes, cant wait. omg omg omg omg

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - OrsunVZ - 12-15-2010

Man I can't wait. but that guy playing Tyrion better friggin bring it, because that is one super complex character - same goes for Jamie Lannister. Ned Stark is actually the most easy to figure out so if Bean screws it up, it'll be particularly disappointing. The thing I am concerned with is Cercei Lannister. I think it will be really easy to play her totally over top, and ruin her character - same goes for Lady Lysa.

I dunno, these books are precious to me, and the characters are the best thing about them. I a praying they do these characters the justice they deserve.

Also I want to see pics of the guys playing "The Mountain" Gregor Clegane.

Any word on who's playing the Onion Knight?

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Jakensama - 12-16-2010

Davos isnt in the books til the second or third one right? He wont be cast in season 1.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Uncle Shags - 12-16-2010

This is from Martin's blog:

The more feared of the many Lannister knights is the huge, brutal Ser Gregor Clegane, the Mountain That Rides. I did not exactly make it easy for David and Dan and our casting director Nina Gold when I described Gregor as being almost eight feet tall, but they came through as always when they filled the role with Conan... no, not Jason Momoa, and not the Governator either (way too old, way too small, and not a good enough actor), but Australian actor, bodybuilder, and stunt man CONAN STEVENS.

Stevens is actually about ten inches shorter than the Mountain... but still a good half foot taller than Rory McCann, who will be playing his "little brother" Sandor Clegane. He first came to our attention when he read for the part of Khal Drogo. He was not right for that role, but he's perfect for this one, with the acting chops to go with the great physicality he brings to Gregor.

Stevens has his own website at http://www.conanstevens.com/ and is also a blogger. At last report, he was already in Belfast, being fitted for his armor and meeting the other members of the cast. You can read more about that on his blog. He seems to be an amiable fellow, from what he writes, not at all like Ser Gregor. But on screen he's very different, and I can't wait to see the Mountain and the Hound square off at the Hand's tourney.

"that guy" is Peter Dinklage and I don't think you have anything to worry about there.

Quote:In George R.R. Martin's A Game Of Thrones, nobles wreak unimaginable destruction in their power-lust. But one environmentalist is calling HBO real-life Lannisters: They covered a protected beach in Malta with fake sand, resulting in "total elimination" of the ecosystem.

Obliterating ecosystems is a promising sign of being badass.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Uncle Shags - 12-16-2010

Here's some pics and comments from Entertainment Weekly. Looks pretty good. I just worry about the cheese factor. Dudes running around with swords and armor shouting, "I will now smite thee!" can easily be stomach turning. I am hoping for dark. The darker the set and lighting, the less chance for campiness. So far that looks how they're going.

Re: R.R. Martin fans: Seen this? - Grunldesnapp - 12-18-2010

CONAN STEVENS......not what i picture when i think of this character, im thinking of someone nearly as wide as he is tall. However that dude is pretty effen massive.
