Some people are setting up unsecured wireless networks specifically because they want you to connect to it presumably so they can do things like packet sniffing to fish for your login info or maybe poke around your computer to see if you have anything interesting shared out. (Although the g-mail login page is secure, I notice the rest of it, like where you read email, is not. I'm not real sure how hard it would be to listen in on old school SMTP email requests -- I dunno if those are secure at all.)
So next time you see an unsecured wireless network, you should consult Admiral Ackbar first.

Lopping off a Thieves hand, although probably not the 'right' thing to do, should would make me feel a whole lot better... that or a knife in the back as they're running out the patio of my condo in the city with my blue ray and flat screen.
