PA/NY/Catskills area information request - dilznic - 06-26-2009 My girlfriend got a summer job out in north PA and I'm planning a trip out to visit her for a couple days in July and combining it with a work trip to NY. I was wondering if any of you east-coasters know of a nice hotel/resort in the Catskills area that would be nice for a short stay, or any kind of fun activities in the general area. I was able to find a lot of stuff out on the interwebs, but would greatly prefer any kind of firsthand information from people that aren't trying to sell me something. My GF is working in Preston Park, PA... so I think the two closest "cities" would be either Binghamton NY or Scranton PA. I'm timing my visit to coincide w/ our anniversary so I'd prefer not to end up in a holiday inn. ![]() Incidentally, if any purgies are going to be in/near NYC July 22-24 we should totally grab a beer somewhere. Re: PA/NY/Catskills area information request - Breand - 06-26-2009 Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, the induction ceremony is July 26th. Ive gone every year for the past decade. Cooperstown itself is a beautiful town. Howe Caverns is in the Catskills too. My friend has a house in the Cobleskill area we go up there all the time, beautiful area. Re: PA/NY/Catskills area information request - Hoofhurr - 06-26-2009 I've only been to the catskills in winter and that was a long time ago. They probably have all the usual high elevation activities: biking, hiking; I'm not sure about the water activities or lodging. Re: PA/NY/Catskills area information request - Riz - 07-04-2009 Sorry Hoof, I'm from the other side of the state. I've BEEN to the Catskills, but that's about it. I'd rather take a cheese grater to my testicles than go to that end of the state again. |
