tomorrows worm thingy - bonestomper - 03-31-2009 normally i am not concerned about technological break downs, but i am unable to install Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 Service Pack 3 (KB928367) tried multiple times and the window just says unable to install. microsofts web site is really not that helpful (that i can find), i am running the updated new AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy. do i have something to be concerned about here or not? - Jodah - 03-31-2009 With both Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware updated you should be ok. Trying the Windows thing later can't hurt but you should be safe. I'm usually pretty paranoid about this kind of thing but I'm not too worried about this one. - dilznic - 03-31-2009 Are you trying to install that update directly, or are you going through the windowsupdate.microsoft.com website? I often get that error message when I try to install an update directly that is not needed on my PC. If you open IE and go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com assuming you're using a legit copy of Windows it will autodetect what if any updates you need and install them for you. As far as the "conficker" worm for tomorrow, Symantec has a detect and removal tool for that specific threat on their website somewhere. - bonestomper - 03-31-2009 lets go with i think it is registed legit. i have tried both methods to install SP3, from the icon and from the microsoft website, neither work. i will check the symantec site. - Dustie - 03-31-2009 You should wait until 11:59 and then you can do a "just in time" scene from hackers. Virus is coming on line! updates downloading! Virus is activating! Updates Installed! It's it's we're saved! - Jodah - 03-31-2009 Another tip, if you are going to have an issue with it chances are you already have it. The Worm itself isn't going to suddenly become active or spread like mad, it is just "evolving" to change its code and such. If you can access most security websites then you should be fine. The worm actually blocks most internet security websites when if you have it so try a few. If you can get to Symantec, AVG, and a couple others, you are most likely fine. - Diggles - 03-31-2009 bonestomper Wrote:lets go with i think it is registed legit. .Net framework 1.0 is several years old and not used anymore. Symantec is useless garbage that only slows your computer down by about half. - Ulfen - 03-31-2009 The 2009 Symantec products are actually really good as far as not slowing down your pc like previous versions. I tried the 30-day trial just to check it out. I use Avast though because its super-light, and sounds piratey! - Fretty - 03-31-2009 I use myself and nothing else. |
