Fringe? - Jakensama - 02-17-2009

Looking for a new series to download, while I am waiting on new BSG/Lost/House episodes. Anyone seen this? Worth watching?

- Dustie - 02-17-2009

Haven't seen it. I too and waiting on BSG/Lost. I really don't know what I'm going to do when those are done. I guess I can finally cancel cable and proceed with the idea in the "cancel cable" thread.

Heroes? That might be good. I haven't seen it but was contemplating picking up the DvDs.

I watched the Dollhouse premier on hulu. First episode wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away. It's by Joss Whedon though, which might prove to be pretty good even if it takes a few shows to start pulling people in.

I was hooked on fringe for a while but dont watch enough tv to keep up. I really liked the old scientist on the show, hilarious. Show struck me as a new age x-files. Its worth taking a look at and seeing if its for you or not.

I heard the first one is lackluster, i will ask around in a month or so and see how its doing before downloading. Firefly was great tho.

The shows I watch are House, Monk, and Psych, with a dash of Dr. Who. I've invested in MASH and Cheers episodes on DVD. I also started buying (and cannot believe how freaking expensive they are) DVDs of all the old Dark Shadows episodes.

Shows on TV have really gotten to be disappointing. There's nothing good on anymore. When I went home for Christmas break I actually got hooked on HGTV because those shows were more interesting (and practical) than most of the other cable shows. I mean, come on - WWF matches on the Sci-Fi channel? Lawdy, lawdy, lawdy.

If you haven't seen the HBO shows, I would seriously recommend Deadwood & Rome. Both are fantastic.

Ya, HBO has put out some good series. Band of Brothers was phenomenal, and Six Feet Under was good too.

If I knew of a way to burn the DVDs into a file and host them on my webserver I would.

Dexter.

if I had cable, or more specifically Showtime, I might actually consider turning the TV on for that.

maybe.

which is leaps and bounds beyond what I'd be willing to do for any other show.

Fringe is by JJ Abrams, the creator of Lost. It is an up-to-date X-Files with more of a serial approach (less stand alone episodes as the series progresses).

Heroes season 1 was amazing. Seasons 2 was "meh". I haven't begun season 3 yet, but I have them all downloaded and waiting a rainy day to kill time with.

Other good shows imo (aside from BSG and Lost):
Californication
Entourage
True Blood
30 Rock
The Office
24

*edit*
Don't forget:
Weeds
Dexter

*edit2*
Dead Set (ZOMBIES!!! 5 part mini series / movie aired on the BBC (I think. It was english either way) in Oct '08 5 days in a row leading up to Halloween. Read up on it, it was one of, if not THE best zombie film I've ever seen.)

I hated the Fringe pilot but Ive heard it's gotten a lot better. Wasnt a big fan of the Dollhouse pilot, but Ill give it another chance. I think the biggest problem with the show will be that Eliza Dusku will basically be playing a different person every episode and she's just not good enough of an actress to pull it off.

Check out Torchwood, if youre doing torrents. Brit show thats a spinoff of Dr. Who, but is pretty seperate from the mythos and REALLY good. I never really watched Dr. Who but Torchwood is great. It's on BBC America I think, but I dont have that channel.

Oh, and Mad Men of course. My favorite show hands down.

Where's a good site to download all of these from?

- Jodah - 02-17-2009

If you don't mind using torrents I use Mininova.com and Piratebay.org

Yeah I've seen pretty much everything listed (you watch alot of tv when you move abroad).. I'll check out torchwood. Might give true blood another chance but the pilot was a bit too soap operaish..

- Ulfen - 02-19-2009

Fringe is basically X-Files for dummies, when Walter (the scientist) explains something his son Peter reexplains it in layman's terms. I find it to be incredibly annoying.

Torchwood was okay for awhile, in Doctor Who they hinted at Captain Jack Harkness being bisexual, but in Torchwood they slap you across the face with it. I'm not interested in watching him roll around on the floor with men.

Heroes is much better this year than last, but still not close to the quality of season 1.

Deadwood was good (western), was on HBO.

I watched Fringe for a little while (1/2 the first season), then didn't have the time to continue. I think it'd be worth downloading if possible.

Yes Deadwood was very good. I wish it was still on.

No love for Chuck?

I didn't like Fringe, seemed like like a bad X-Files rip-off. True Blood is very entertaining, if a bit silly at times.

Weren't they going to do some mini series conclusion to it?

Season 3 was pretty weak.

Chuck is hilarious! I watch it when I have time.
