Its the best free to play model on the market.
Dont spend your early certs on guns, upgrade your gear and then vehicles.

And I'm pretty sure Dustie is playing Emerald server (east coast), Terran Republic, though I have yet to fire it up and see.
Really you might as well get this one downloaded and installed too. It's another free-to-play title. I actually like their upgrade model better. WOWships has you progress through tiers and you can't play your tier 10 ship with tier 4 newbies (although, that said, different tiers have very different styles of gameplay so it is fun to play old tiers).
Planetside puts you right into the battle with everyone else day 1 and you're reasonably competitive, mostly earning side-grades and additional options as you go instead of simply being segregated off from veteran "tiers".
