Laptop Graphics card upgrade - OrsunVZ - 05-17-2012 So I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop and getting it gaming ready. Currently, I am running: NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 8G RAM Intel Core i5-2430M CPU @ 2.4 GHz I'm thinking I'd see the biggest improvement upgrading the vid card, but have no clue what to upgrade to. Any suggestions? Re: Laptop Graphics card upgrade - Skelas - 05-17-2012 I think any nvidia card in the 500's is pretty current. You can always upgrade, but it'll cost a pretty penny to get something cutting edge. I really don't have much experience with laptop upgrades, isn't it problematic upgrading laptops? How do you even open the hood? Re: Laptop Graphics card upgrade - 1000xZero - 05-17-2012 Usually you can't upgrade latops save memory or Hard Drive... Most laptops physical form just can't fit any sort of upgrades aside from the memory/HDD... and even some newer dells, replacing the HDD requires taking apart the entire fucking laptop. If you lookup your exact laptop, you may be able to find something. Re: Laptop Graphics card upgrade - Riz - 05-17-2012 Most gaming laptops can indeed replace the video card. I can on mine easily. I'm using an ASUS laptop. Core i7-2670QM 2.2ghz 8 gigs ram 1tb hd (which is shit slow, I'm going to replace it was a fairly large SSD soon) NVidia GTX560M w/2gig discreet memory All in all, it's a solid machine, but obviously a big sucker. The thing I like the most about it is, it runs cool. It's also something I can take with me. With my brother and mother both in and out of the hospital regularly, I'm visiting a couple hours from home regularly. This lets me take games with me. btw, I can run GW2 on full graphics with no stutters. Re: Laptop Graphics card upgrade - Bulgy - 05-21-2012 Does this laptop really leave the house? I find alot of people get a gaming laptop but then it never leaves home. If that's the case, maybe a desktop would serve you better? Re: Laptop Graphics card upgrade - OrsunVZ - 05-21-2012 No, this is a laptop. Primary purpose is for work when I'm travelling. Sitting in a Hotel room in the evening can get really effing boring. I thought replacing the graphics card would be tricky, this is a particularly thin laptop, so finding a card with the same profile would be problematic I'm sure. It ran RIFT fairly well though, so I might be able to live with it for a while. I think maybe I should be looking at upgrading my desktop then. I'll load the specs later and let you guys tell me what the next logical upgrade should be. Re: Laptop Graphics card upgrade - Jakensama - 05-22-2012 OrsunVZ Wrote:No, this is a laptop.
