I was always concerned GOT would not translate well to TV because they will have to cycle the cast or worse yet make the cast members they do have morf into dicks.
They certainly are making their money now but it will wear out its welcome eventually. If one didn't read the books I can totally see that perspective.

Yes but you can't possibly get that much detail in an one hour show. In the books you know everyone is playing the game. In the TV show you rarely see them playing the game, you only see the consequences.

Well I enjoyed the ending, though I would say it was the weakest of the seasons. The last 2 episodes brought some excitement back. I will say that the people who should have died in this last episode did.....
I do think I would have enjoyed the books more, but for me that ship has sailed.

Yea, I have to say this episode more than any other just took the story in a completely different direction. This part of the books completely defined everything that came later which they completely struck from the show. That was probably a good idea.

Kind of wanted to see coldhands, but glad they edited out most of Bran's boring ass trek through the snow.
The fight on the wall should have gone on for much, much longer - but I suppose the budget was only so great too.

They still can, she only shows up in the epilogue of SoS and they could have decided not to add another person on the payroll in an already packed episode.
Wouldn't be surprised if they drop her entirely though.

One thing that did bother me is that in the show there is no reason for why Tyrion ended up in Tywin's chamber to find Shae and kill him. In the book there was something that made him snap and force Varys to take him up to the quarters, in the show not so much. Shit, if he was gonna risk his chance of getting away to get some revenge you would think he would do it to Cersei - this is the second time shes tried to kill him.

[spoiler]Not sure specifically what you are talking about. Tyrion's motivation for killing his father? The Brienne/Hound fight? Jojen dying? Those were the major differences and I don't think any of them really change the direction of the story.[/spoiler]

Two primary ones are Tyrion and Jamie not engaging in the conversation about Tyrion's x-wife. Not only did that put a permanent rift between Tyrion and Jamie but it also lead to Jamie drawing away from Cersei. Tyrion continued to obsess about Jamie's act long afterwards which is why he decides to do what he does. That is not to say they can't make up new reason for these things but the rift between Tyrion and Jamie simply doesn't exist now so placating that in the show would be difficult. That item is really the only thing that could break the two up.
Brienne meeting Arya more so than the Hound changes the dynamic assuming Stoneheart is ever introduced. Everyone in the books assumes she is dead but now people who have access to Lanisters now know she isn't. This kind of screws up the Bolton's story as well.
Jojen was no loss. Just less crying.

Zombie Cat will not be in the series next season either. Which explains the divergance with Brienne.

I'd be pretty happy if they skipped the whole zombie bit. That was close to the point I quit reading because while I wasn't sure where he planned to go with that idea, I didn't think it made any damn sense at the time and probably wouldn't go anywhere that made the story better.

I am relieved they decided to cut that. I was ok with it in the begining because I assumed all of the Red Priest were eventually going to connect to what was going on over the wall. I mean we are talking zombies so I just assumed their was a connection.
When he never tied them together I was like wow, Zombie Cat was a total waste of time.

I was a bit disappointed in Tyrion's story and the x-wife not being mentioned more. Jamie is on his little hero quest to be a better person in the books and releasing Tyrion was part of that in my opinion. Like you said, he's trying to repair the rift because he's realizing how his family has been. The way it was told it seems like Jamie and Cersei are still a thing and it was pity vs a dedicated shift to being a better person. They made Shae into more of a character and her betrayal doesn't have the same impact as if everyone knew that this was the second time Tywin "screwed" with Tyrion's heart. It also gives more reason to why he shot him with the "whore" comment.
Something tells me this is a setup for the Cersei decline storyline.
